What to Pack For Your Holiday Tango Tour
You have been dreaming of jetting off for blissful days or weeks of tango in far-flung locations. But what to pack?
Certainly take a tolerant credit card and flat shoes for shopping in Patio Bullrich and Arandu (think Ibiza Town married with Knightsbridge). And remember to pack plenty of stretchable fabrics too!
Sleigh Bells
A sleigh bell or jingle bell is a type of musical instrument with a distinctive jingle sound. Sleigh bells are in the family of percussion instruments, and they have been used since ancient times. They were often suspended from harnesses on horses to signal the arrival of someone important, or warn pedestrians of a coming sleigh.
Sleigh bells have become a symbol of Christmas and are popular with children, but they can also be used year round to add holiday cheer to any room in the house. This set of handcrafted sleigh bells is a great way to start a new family tradition and create memories for generations to come.
These beautiful sleigh bells are crafted from heavy sand cast brass and are highly polished. They are strung on a high quality, hand tooled strap of premium English saddle skirting. Originally built for a horse, these sleigh bells are not cheap holiday decorations and will last for years to come.
Jingle Bells
Jingle bells are small, rounded pieces of metal that have been hung on a chain to produce the sound of jingling. They were once used on the harnesses of sleighs to signal drivers at blind intersections. The simplest jingle bells are a single piece of sheet metal bent into a roughly spherical shape that holds a ball bearing or short piece of rod.
A plaque in Medford, Massachusetts, suggests that James Lord Pierpont wrote Jingle Bells while sitting in a local tavern and watching sleigh races on Salem Street. But researcher Kyna Hamill has debunked this story.
In 1965, astronauts Walter “Wally” Schirra and Thomas Stafford pulled a prank on Mission Control from orbiting Gemini 6. They played the first song ever broadcast from space: Jingle Bells, on a harmonica and set of miniature sleigh bells they had smuggled aboard. The instrument is now on display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
The Stars and Stripes Forever
A traditional American march, The Stars and Stripes Forever has become the official National March of the United States by an act of Congress. It was written and composed by John Philip Sousa, who is known as “The March King” because of the number of marches he wrote.
Marches are instrumental music that feature a repeating pattern of one strong beat and one weak beat. They are typically used to accompany bands that are marching in a parade. The Stars and Stripes Forever is also featured in classic Popeye cartoons by Fleischer Studios and two Laurel and Hardy short films.
In his autobiography, Sousa writes that he composed the march on Christmas Day in 1896 while on an ocean liner returning from Europe. He had just received the news of the death of his band manager, David Blakely. He later penned the notes on paper when he returned home. It became popular at Sousa Band concerts for audiences to rise upon hearing the first bars of the march.
